Photo / Video Etiquette

We love that you love the Tracks, but please take a moment to learn about photo and video etiquette at the Trackside Art Gallery. Photos on this website were taken by either Colin Smith Takes Pics or Laura-Beth. Photos with artists in them were taken with express verbal consent.

Is it okay to photography artwork at the Tracks?

Yes, it’s okay to take photos of just artwork at the Tracks and share them online.

Is it okay to photograph artists at the Tracks?

No. It is generally not okay to photograph artists painting at the Tracks without their express permission. Some artists do not wish to be photographed and it’s important to respect anonymity of these writers.

Can I tag artists in my Instagram post?

Generally, we recommend not doing this without getting express and ongoing permission from the artist. Even if you know who the artist is and/or are acquainted with them, it’s best to get express permission before tagging people in posts and online. You can always tag @Trackside_Paint_Jam in Instagram posts to help promote the area.

Can I use your photos for media, promotion, etc.?

If you will be using the photos for for-profit commercial use, please contact us so we can determine fair compensation for the artists. If you would like to use photos on this website, please contact us for permission and a licensing agreement. For other graffiti-related project photography, we recommend Colin Smith who can be contacted through his Instagram.

I’m a professional photographer and/or media professional, can I photograph the Trackside Paint Jam?

Maybe. We assess photo and media requests on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us in advance if you would like to attend the jam as a professional photographer and/or media. All media must check in with Laura-Beth prior to the event to get a media pass and photo licensing agreement. Please contact Laura-Beth for press and interview requests.

Do I need permission to film at the Tracks?

If your project is for-profit or commercial use, please contact us for more information and to connect with the building owners and/or artists. Permits may be required through the CRD and/or Island Corridor Foundation for film crew access. Our goal is to always ensure artists give consent and are compensated for use of their artwork in commercial projects, while the artwork is public, building a culture of consent and compensation helps ensure the sustainability of the area and a thriving urban arts ecosystem.

If your project is for personal or non-commercial use, you likely do not need permission, however we are happy to offer guidance if you have questions.
